Jan 2021 – temperature anomalies

January 2021
Mean Temperature Anomalies

A mostly cold Europe for a change in January 2021, particularly so over Spain and Scandinavia (-2 to -3°C) but warmer than average across the Black Sea and North Africa (+3°C). The UK was slightly colder than average, particularly across the north, and it was very cold across central Russia with anomalies of -9°C or lower. The Arctic was running hot again, I don’t like using the term hot but its the only way to describe monthly anomalies of +11°C, more than likely linked to the absence of sea ice at the moment north of Novaya Zemlya. Central and northern parts of Canada were also unusually mild during January (+8°C) as well.
