January 2020 – temperatures
The record mild weather of January 2020 across much of Scandinavia and western Russia (+8°C) is self evident in the above January temperature anomaly chart. The only colder than average regions were to be found over the Barent Sea (-6°C), southern Greenland (-5°C) and parts of Saharan Africa (-3°C). The central North Atlantic remained cold again but there were anomalous high temperatures in the Arctic Ocean north of Jan Mayen (+7°C). Below is a closer weekly look of how much of Europe has been dominated by above average temperatures spiralling around since the middle of November.
