More gobbledygook from the Met Office

This morning the Met Office updated their yellow warning of heavy rain for western Scotland for later on Saturday and through into Sunday. The reason for their update, as far as I can make out is because they now deem that it’s unlikely to occur, but if it does occur the impacts will be higher (yellow) than they anticipated before. This is despite them increasing peak totals from 120-160 mm over the mountains to 150-180 mm. Like me, I am not clear if the general public completely understand the logic behind the impact based warning system the Met Office seems to love so much, and confusing updates like this don’t help their cause.

“The warning has been moved to a very low likelihood of medium impacts – though lower level impacts are still likely across much of the area”
