Pressure check

The strong zonal flow continues into February, and if anything the W’SW gradient is even a little tighter than it was in January. The recent near record deep lows of 920 hPa have increased the negative pressure anomaly to -16 hPa across the Greenland sea southwest of Iceland, and over the Barents sea anomalies are even greater at -20 hPa. Positive anomalies of +6 hPa persist over North Africa enhancing the squeeze. The mild, wet and windy continues without any let up, let’s hope March brings some much needed relief in the form of an anticyclonic spell.
