I see that wildfires and record breaking heatwaves are making the news again across in California, so I thought that I would take a look at the the mean temperature anomalies across north America over the last week or so. I calculate these anomalies with the help of CRUTEM monthly averages from thousands of climate stations across the world. Because I don’t have access to daily LTA’s I have to do a bit of jiggery pokery in the programming department to find a daily mean, but I don’t think that affects accuracy too much (bar the -1.1°C on the coast south of Los Angeles!), and I find it works fairly well across the UK and Europe. It’s interesting to see that in the last weeks that although America has generally been experiencing excessive heat, mean temperatures across Canada have been below average.
