Recent temperature comparisons

I have been meaning to write some code to to do a temperature comparison between two climate stations for a while now, and yesterday I finally put something together to do this. The sky’s the limit with this application because you can directly compare any two stations but for the fullest comparison you really do need hourly reports. The first chart is a north-south comparisons of 24 hour mean temperatures between Baltasound on the Island of Unst in the north and the Scilly Isles in the southwest. Not surprisingly temperatures at Unst have never exceeded the 24 hour mean for the Scillies so far this year, and the 24 hour mean difference has been as high as 13°C in late January. The sub-zero cold spells in January, February and April all there too, which is not bad going for an Island in the North Atlantic.

This west-east comparison shows how much colder Berlin has been since the start of the year than Edinburgh, although Edinburgh has had a number of short colder spells than Berlin.
