Winds continue to veer in the coming week

The circulation over the next ten days across the UK will continue to become less cyclonic and more anticyclonic as winds gradually veer into the east, that’s according to the ECMWF model. It looks set to remain rather cold into the New Year, but so far any real low temperatures don’t look likely to affect the country in the coming ten days. There does seem likely to be some showers or longer spells of precipitation coming in from the North Sea, but at the moment these likely to fall as rain rather than snow in coastal regions and lower ground, the snow restricted to higher ground inland. Cold air is not what it used to be in an easterly, especially when SST in the Baltic sea are so much above average this time round.
